[Marriage Story] Joy & Amado

Joy & Amado Lobatos

Wedding Date: August 5, 1995

Children: Myah, age 20

Top Tips for Building a Strong Marriage:

Joy: Hold the early expectations you have for your life loosely. Some things will go as expected, but many won't. And when you're standing in an unexpected place with no idea how to proceed, trust that God knows and will guide you each messy step of the way.

Amado: Learn to spend time thanking God for the gift HE has given you in the spouse you have. When I realized how privileged I was to have the the spouse I had, and that she chose to be with me:-), I was so grateful because I understood all the baggage that I came with and she accepted me, baggage and all.

If God isn't driving the "love" that you have in your marriage, it can turn into a transactional relationship which will function as long as there's enough "resources" available to keep the "transactional" relationship going. I praise God that I have a wife who truly does love me without it having to be transactional. I love my wife with all my heart regardless of what she does or doesn't do for me.
